Mahindra Thar is a popular 4×4 SUV in the Indian market. It also happens to be the most affordable 4×4 SUV you can buy in India. It became popular among buyers in a short time. The demand for Mahindra Thar is currently so high that there is a waiting period of almost a year on it. Mahindra Thar is a capable off-roader and there are several modification options available for this SUV in the market. We’ve seen several modifications to Mahindra Thar so far, but here we have a video in which a 360-degree camera is integrated into the stock touchscreen infotainment system.

The video was uploaded by CAR SONICS CAR ACCESSORIES HYDERABAD on their YouTube channel. They successfully installed the 360 degree camera in a Mahindra Thar. In this video, the vlogger shows how the owner of this car had a dealership backup camera installed. Mahindra does not offer rear view camera with Thar from factory. Customers who want this feature can have it installed at the dealership as an accessory.

The video shows what the view of the backup camera was like when it arrived at the dealership. Then he drives the car to an open parking space to show the feed showing on the screen after installing the 360 degree camera. Before displaying the screen, vlogger shows where all the cameras have been installed. The front camera was neatly installed on the grille and two more cameras were installed under the ORVMs. Another camera was installed just above the license plate without drilling a hole in the bumper. The old reversing camera that came with the car can be seen above.

Vlogger then comes in and demonstrates how the 360 degree camera actually works. It’s the first 360-degree camera built into Thar’s touchscreen infotainment system. The vlogger engages reverse and the screen gets a 60:40 split. 40% of the screen shows the 360° view while the rest of the screen shows the feed from the rear camera. The 360 degree camera image or feed appeared distorted because it was not properly calibrated.

After proper calibration, the camera showed a decent bird’s eye view of the SUV. The camera also acts as a blind spot monitoring system. When the vlogger engages the left turn signal, the left camera shows the view and the same happens when the right turn signal is activated. Vlogger mentions that to install this 360 degree camera system, no wires were cut. Everything was installed using a coupler, which means the car’s warranty is not affected.

Mahindra Thar comes with two different engine options. Compared to the previous generation, Thar has improved a lot in terms of build quality and features. It comes with gasoline and diesel engine options. Mahindra uses a 2.2-liter mHawk turbocharged diesel engine that generates 130 hp and 320 Nm of peak torque. The petrol version uses a 2.0-liter mStallion turbocharged unit that generates 150 hp and 320 Nm of torque. Both gasoline and diesel engine options come with manual and automatic transmission.
